Sligo Best Dressed Lady Made Hat From Heather On Donegal Hills

The Irish countryside helped clinch the title of Best Dressed title on Ladies’ Day at Sligo Racecourse for Donegal’s Ingrid Boyle.

Judges were blown away by the stylish creation by Ingrid Boyle, 36, who only decided to head alone to the races with the girls on Tuesday.

‘I had two days to get myself organised,’ Ingrid told EVOKE. ‘I never entertain anything like that in my life, and today when we come up here, somebody approached me and he goes, “Oh, yeah, This is so gorgeous!” And everybody was like looking at me and I was like, “Oh, my God, is that bad or good? I’m not sure!”‘

Ingrid wasn’t expecting the win, and was overcome with emotion. ‘I’m over the moon. I My heart is still panned in I’m lost for words nearly I was absolutely emotional and my tears are running down my face and I was like, “Is this actually happening?”‘

Owing to the fact that this was a very last minute day out for Ingrid and her friends, she didn’t have an outfit planned. One of her group told her that she should at least get an interesting headpiece.

She went to a charity shop bought an old hat and took it apart with a view to recreating something special, picking the heather in the lashing rain on Wednesday morning.

‘I was actually travelling for work to Letterkenny and I was going through the hills, and this pink beautiful heather was just everywhere on the road. And I was like, That’s going to be different. Why not?'”

Describing herself as a creative person, Ingrid- who owns her own business providing balloon decor for special events- set about creating her unique hat in the garage of her home.

Ingrid’s partner Feargal interrupted her creative process at one point but wasn’t surprised to see her knee deep in heather.

‘It would be just something what I would genuinely do!’ she laughed. ‘If I do anything myself, he knows that it’s gonna be something crazy.

‘And I literally was doing mine in his garage and made the big mess there, and he goes “Yeah, yeah, the only thing I want is make sure, you clean up!”‘

Ingrid was the proud winner of a €500 Sligo Racecourse voucher, a cutlery canteen from Newbridge Silverware, a gift vouche for Róisín Linnane and a membership and flying lesson at Sligo Aeronautical Club.
