STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Featured in this week’s Staten Island’s Best Dressed are photos from the 45th Anniversary of First Central Baptist Church. The service and reception, themed “Standing Strong with Jesus,” were held on Nov. 29 at 117 Wright Street/Rev. Dr. Calvin Rice Pl., on Staten Island.
On hand were FCBP Pastor Demetrius Carolina, City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, who provided certificates of acknowledgment from his office, and honored guest Bishop Calvin Rice of the New Jerusalem Worship Center in Queens, N.Y., and former Pastor of the First Central Baptist Church.
Bishop Rice delivered a powerful sermon entitled “The Undeniable Church.” In attendance also were the widow of the late Rev. John L. Moody, the son of the ministry and founder of Harvest Time Minister of Staten Island, Rev. Daryl Moore, Sister Mary Edwards, Brother Demorde Davis, and Deacon Gayle Crowell.
“New and old members, community leaders, public officials, and visitors came to celebrate our 45th Anniversary,” remarked Pastor Rev. Dr. Demetrius Carolina. “There was a three week revival leading up to the Sunday service at which Rev. Tony Baker, Pastor of St. Philips in Staten Island, Rev. Marcia Herrera former associate minister of FCBC and Rev. John Davis, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Harlem were the special guest speakers.
“There was an overflow crowd at the Banquet held at the Crystal Room the Saturday night a week prior. Public Advocate Jumaane Williams spoke about the many years of community building that the First Central Baptist Church continues to do both in Staten Island and well beyond.
“We are thankful for everyone’s participation, collaboration and partnership as the church continues to thrive to meet the needs of its members and surrounding communities, improving lives. First Central, the best is yet to come.”
